Home Design Using Area and PerimeterProcess

Process

To accomplish the task, you must follow the process detailed below. Remember, you are on a schedule so there is no time to waste! Words that are in ALL CAPS are links you must visit to complete this project. Let's get started.

1. Explore

In order to get your architect license, you need to learn and practice the concepts of area and perimeter. Using the links below, explore the websites and the activities they contain. Practice creating a few different figures.

2. Take your exam

Have you explored all of the websites listed above? Do you clearly understand the concepts of area and perimeter? Are you ready to take your architect exam? Remember, your score on this exam will be added to your team's final score. Still ready?

Click on the link below to access and print your exam. Once you have completed and double checked your answers, turn it in to me for grading. You must have at least six correct answers to pass. The better you do on your exam, however, the better your team's final score will be. Good luck!

3. Design your blueprint

Now that you have passed your exam, you will work in teams of four to design the home's blueprint. Use the links below to practice before you start designing on paper. Afterwards, use graph paper and toothpicks to design the floorplan of your "Dream House". Before you begin, please look at how your team's performance will be graded. Once you have completed your design, and all of the team members approve, hand it in to me for final inspection. I must approve your design before you begin constructing your toothpick model.

4. Construct your toothpick model

Following the bluprint that I have approved, begin constructing your model house. Remember, your budget only allows four boxes of toothpicks to be used, so build carefully.

5. Final product

Hopefully you have completed your model on time (within five days) and within budget (four or fewer boxes of toothpicks) . Turn in your model along with a paper describing the area and perimeter of your home.
